Style Icon – Mischa Barton

Spread the love

The world’s various Fashion Weeks are always excellent grounds for finding muse-worthy outfits because gorgeous globetrotters tend to unexpectedly turn up at the proverbial tents. At the recent Australian shows, the delightful surprise came from a rather unexpected, but totally spot-on, source? Mischa Barton, who reminded us why she’s so utterly style stalk-able.

Barton arrived at the week’s debut show, Kirrily Johnston, wearing a blush-colored Treasure Dress from the designer’s S/S 08 collection. The floaty silk georgette dress with leather and sequin quilting mimics Barton’s overall fashion mix-master aesthetic. She’s not only adroit at combining prints and textures, but also has a knack for balancing the feminine/masculine aspects of her assorted looks. In this outfit specifically, she offset the babydoll dress’s soft lines by loading up her arms with tough bracelets and choosing a sturdy pair of silver python wedges to further play up the contrast, all finished off with some ever-so-retro Oakley sunglasses. We found a few items to assist your own creation of a flirty-yet-formidable Barton-like look, from some statement bracelets to similar dress shapes, details below!

  1. Fresh Gloss Absolute ($24)
A pretty peachy lip is always an excellent choice for spring and it’s easily achieved with just a little dab of Gloss Absolute in Bellini. This gloss will also plump your lips a bit for that pouty Mischa mouth.
  2. Wet Seal Etched Donut Earrings ($6)
We suggest that you first search for some long colorful vintage earrings, but if the hunt’s not your thing, you might like these orangey, embellished, enamel ones instead.
  3. ASOS Cut-Out Detail Cuff ($16)
Add a touch of toughness via heavy metal accessories, like this sizeable, ornate, and extremely affordable cuff.
  4. Cargo EyeBronzer ($22)
In our opinion, there’s little that looks better with a light tan than a shimmering bronze eye shadow, as Barton’s beauty look showed us. To achieve beautifully gold eye, try Cargo’s EyeBronzer, which comes with an easy sponge tip wand.
  5. Terry de Havilland Peep Toe Stacked Wedge Sandal ($760)
While wearing such boldly metallic shoes could look super scary on some people, Barton pulls it off by selecting a super gorgeous wedge. The stacked heel alternates between suede and snakeskin and the front platform makes the five-inch wedge a more manageable height. If gold or silver shoes are just too over-the-top for you, try de Havilland’s Snake Wedge Sandal ($760) or MICHAEL Michael Kors Molly Snakeskin Wedge ($129.95).
  6. Kirrily Johnston Treasure Dress ($780)
While we found Barton’s exact dress for the story (available in black or blush), you obviously can swap in any number of similarly shaded and shaped frocks. We think Gold Hawk’s Straight Across Dress ($330) and the Sleeveless Bouillon Dress ($385) by Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent are other excellent starting points too.
  7. Topshop Hexagonal Bracelets ($24)
A selection of bangles is a fine choice, but we also like these intricate gold bracelets from Topshop. They come in a package of three and will nicely dress up any wrist.
